"Stick" Drawings
After discovering Rich Burlew's Order of the Stick Web Comic, I joined the forums at Giant in the Playground and became obsessed with drawing people in Burlew's distinctive "Stick" style, mostly for forum avatars. Here is my collection (which includes fanart for various other kinds of pop culture as wellfanart within fanart!).
For people interested in technical details, I drew some of these in Photoshop Elements and some in Photoshop CS2. One day I will get Adobe Illustrator so I can actually draw these properly (though I've learned a lot about Photoshop and layers this way). Obviously some are better than others; I work ever to improve them.
If you would like to use one of these as Avatars, feel free, but PLEASE download the picture to your own server. I need to preserve bandwidth. If I find you using an avatar off my server, I will delete the avatar and/or replace the image you are using with a different image. ALSO: note most of these are made with "transparent" backgrounds but still have some white artifacts on the outside edge--they look fine on a light background (as in the Giantitp forums) but not on a dark one. Some of them are not transparent and have white backgrounds.
This is the stick figure representation of my Death Quaker Avatar. Death Quaker stands ready to fight injustice with her Supersoaker of Nonviolent Annoyance and her Outer Lite. |
One of my favorite avatars to use, Flame of Sune. Flame is an original character of mine I play in a friend's D&D game. She is a half-elven fighter-cleric from Daerlun in the Forgotten Realms. |
Another version of Flame, with a big smile and some special effects. I shouldn't have altered her face as much. |
Another "original" character, this tiefling dual-wielder was my "Knight Captain" I played through the NWN2 OC as. Her name is Dara Shadowsprung. I was trying a different way of drawing characters, and you can see I made her head too big. It will perhaps be fixed one day. |
Perky thief/mage Imoen from the Baldur's Gate series of PC RPGs. Imoen was the first Avatar I used, though this is a revised-and-revised again one. |
Viconia also from Baldur's Gate, summoning power from Shar to curse you into oblivion. |
An old attempt to draw Annah, the most awesome character in a video game to exist ever. She is from Planescape: Torment, the greatest RPG ever. |
Another attempt at Annah. I feel I can't get her quite right, but it won't stop me from trying. Did I mention she was awesome? She's awesome. |
|
Lina Inverse from the Slayers manga/anime, in the process of incanting a spell that will likely deliver nuclear-blast equivalent damage to an unwitting nearby village |
Naga couldn't stand her rival Lina getting an avatar herself so she had to get one too. Normally I don't like putting text in these kind of avatars, but the Laugh of Evil seems necessary. |
Yomiko Readman, the heroine of Read or Die. She stands ready to protect the world with her paper prowess (and home in time to curl up with a good book). |
Wendy Earhart, from R.O.D, as seen in the OAV and manga, in her perkier, nicer, if clumsier form. |
|
Maggie Mui, my favorite character from R.O.D the TV. One of a trio called the Paper Sisters, she blocks bullets with paper and animates massive origami marionettes. She also rocks, and I love her, so there. |
Eldest Paper Sister Michelle Cheung, prepping her paper bow to perforate the bad guys. Green Arrow, you've met your match. |
Anita King, the youngest Paper Sister, expert in martial arts and slicing steel with notecards. Not a more badass 12-year-old you will meet anywhere. |
Protected by the Paper Sisters (taking over from Yomiko Readman), author Nenene Sumiregawa doesn't need superpowers to be tough. |
|
Jury Arisugawa, the angsty fencing captain from Revolutionary Girl Utena |
Dinah Lance, the Black Canary, drawn as a request from Jennifer Ford. |
Barbara Gordon the Oracle, hackmaster and leader of the Birds of Prey. Drawn as a request from Min at Words of Prey after I had drawn Canary for Jennifer. At one point I had started making an improved version, but heck if I know what I did with it. |
OOTS antagonist Miko Miyazaki as Helena Bertinelli from Birds of Prey, drawn for a "OOTS Superheroes" contest. |
Oh, and here's a larger entry for the Superheroes "Iron Avatarist" contest, OOTS characters Vaarsuvius, Celia, Haley, and Miko as Oracle, Lady Blackhawk, Black Canary, and the Huntress, respectively:
